You Owe it to Yourself to Visit Rancho San Rafael Regional Park
You’ll find the 600-acre Rancho San Rafael Park just to the north-northwest of Reno’s downtown area. Rancho San Rafael Park features green fields, marshes, natural areas, picnic shelters that can be hired, nature and walking pathways, a playground, and a big dog park over its acres.
This vast Reno park is home to the Wilbur D. May Museum, Arboretum, and Botanical Gardens, as well as a renovated ranch house available for events. Also, Rancho San Rafael Park is located here.
Activities You Can Participate In While Visiting This Beautiful Reno Park
Rancho San Rafael Regional Park features a big dog park, a number of hiking and biking trails, a large dog park, the May Museum, and the May Arboretum and Botanical Garden, all of which are open to the public.
The many acres of grassy fields are perfect for a wide variety of sports and other outdoor pursuits. To the north of the park, on the foothills of Peavine Peak, you’ll find a web of paths that are great for hiking and horseback riding.
Ample free parking is available at the park’s northern and southern entrances. The dog park at Rancho Park is one the largest of its kind in the region. The area is ideal if you want your dog to have room to run about and play.
Rancho San Rafael Park Hosts a Variety of Activities
The Great Reno Balloon Race is an annual Rancho San Rafael Regional Park event. This race is considered to be one of Reno’s signature events.
The Hot Air Balloon Festival is one of the most significant events in the United States, and it is free to attend. You’ll need to get up early to view the best of what’s offered, but the effort will be well worth it.
The Wilbur D. May Center
This Nevada rancher, businessman, and philanthropist named Wilbur D. May left behind as his legacy the building that bears his name: the Wilbur D. May Center.
The May Museum hosts events, programs, and exhibits throughout the year and has a gift shop. Items that Wilbur May brought back to Reno from his extensive travels worldwide are housed in the May Collection.
A Lovely Botanical Garden & Arboretum
The interior Garden Court is landscaped with ponds, waterfalls, and plants from tropical regions. It is available for various occasions, including weddings, private parties, receptions, etc. The opening hours and admission prices will change depending on the time of year.
In addition, the Wilbur D May Arboretum and Botanical Garden are open 365 days a year, making it an excellent location to take a stroll and appreciate the city’s natural surroundings.
You won’t only get to view plants and trees from Nevada; you’ll also see plants and trees from around the world. The fall is a precious time to visit.
Position of Rancho San Rafael Regional Park
At 1595 North Sierra Street is where you’ll find Rancho San Rafael, Regional Park. Direct entry may be reached via North Sierra Street, located west of the University of Nevada, Reno campus. This entrance will lead you onto San Rafael Drive, situated on the park’s south side. You can access the primary attractions, such as the May Arboretum and the May Museum, as well as the playground and a number of other picnic sites, from this street.
You can enter the building from the south through Coleman Drive or Washington Street. North Virginia Street, which is just north of McCarran Boulevard, provides access to the northern half of the park. When you get to that intersection, you will see a sign directing you to the Reno Softball Complex parking area. Also, Rancho San Rafael Regional Park is just 13 Miles away from Wonder Web Development.
Exploring the Local Area
The Fleischmann Planetarium is a fantastic attraction, and Rancho San Rafael Regional Park is about ten minutes away on foot. The Planetarium hosts star shows, stargazing, and laser shows throughout the year. It’s also one of the most unique buildings in all of the Reno, NV area.
