Born Blessed
Some people are born with perfect features. Their bodies seem to be built perfectly. All they have to do is some simple grooming to look their very best. The luckiest men are born with full, thick facial hair. Perfect for styling. Perfectly shaped. Masculine in appearance. You know what I’m talking about. However, when it comes to facial hair, I wasn’t born blessed.
For the rest of us, we must turn to other options to fix patchy bald spots in our beards & mustaches. Even when facial hair growth is relatively well-balanced, symmetry doesn’t always occur. For some reason, our bodies don’t always quite sync up on both sides. I myself, know this all too well.
My Facial Hair Experience
I attended Catholic school for 12 years. Consequently, that meant no facial hair was allowed. Finally, after graduation, I began my first attempt at sporting some manly facial hair. I was a bit disappointed, to say the least. When I began growing my long-awaited facial hair, nothing wanted to grow. Lame!
Finally, about a year in (at the age of 19), I started to see I was growing some beard hair on my chin. However, it was less than appealing. My beard growth seemed to only occur on the sides of my chin. In other words, I had two small patches of hair. It looked really stupid. Despite this, I persevered, hoping the middle would eventually fill out. That didn’t happen. At least not for another couple of years.
I can’t really pinpoint the time when my beard finally started to fill in, but eventually, it happened. Glorious! But after a while, I began to notice something. The areas where my hair had first started to grow were twice as thick as the rest of my beard hair. In fact, to this day, if I trim my beard with a 3mm clipper head, you can see it come in much darker. It almost appears that I’m wearing a goatee over my beard. A really weird goatee at that!
But that’s not all I began to notice, I saw that the area of my beard right below my lip was uneven… on both sides. One side dipped down while the other side went up further and almost melded with my mustache. Finally, as my mustache came in fuller, I also noticed that my left side had a small patch that just never grew in. To this day, it hasn’t and I doubt it ever will without surgical intervention.
Considering Other Facial Hair Options
Ultimately, while I’ve begun growing out my mustache longer to hide the missing patch and began waxing the bottom area, these are only temporary solutions to my bear and mustache hair problems. It was at this point that I started doing some research and stumbled upon mustache and beard transplants in Los Angeles. I was intrigued.
When I learned about facial hair transplants, I began considering getting one in Los Angeles to fix my facial hair failings. As I had tried for years to groom myself and still hadn’t achieved my desired results, the prospect of receiving a facial hair transplant looked more and more likely. While I still have yet to make the final call, it’s definitely on my radar.
One thing’s for sure. Reno is not a good option. I’ve done my research and LA is the place to go, should I make that choice in the future. I just need some more time to think. However, the thought is always in the back of my mind. Every time I look in the mirror, every time I trim my funny beard growth down with a smaller blade, and every time I wax the furry patches to match the bald areas, a quiet voice in the back of my head whispers “Do it… get the beard transplant.”
